We are currently in that special pocket of the world known as Santa Cruz, California--not only stunningly beautiful, but possessing a spirit of open-mindedness and acceptance that is so refreshing to the soul. Ben and I are both busy with our careers, which we are passionate about, and doing activities with the kids. The travel bug seems to be hybernating, as there are no places in the world (other than home) that are calling to my heart right now.
I never thought I'd say it, but all the places on my "bucket list" have been checked--Machu Piccu, the Great Wall of China, Paris, Venice, Rome, the castles of Portugal, Spain, the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, the salt plains of the altiplano in Bolivia, the Amazon jungle, Alaskan glaciers, Namibian elephants and giant sand dunes, Old Faithful and Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, and many more places that weren't on my bucket list but would have been if I had known how spectacular they were. Our summer adventure this year may seem tame--dirt biking and mountain biking in the Sierra Mountains of California; however, we will be traveling in our beloved RV, which has provided the home base for so many great family memories.
There will be other international journeys I am sure, as my travel dreams sometimes drift toward Iceland, New Zealand, or southern Italy. Until then, I will revel in the day-to-day simple pleasures of life . . . at home.
